PROJECT 3 : Analysing the sites

Site 1 – analysis

- 80m x 9m

- Car park

- Long

- Shops on both sides

- Entrance at front and rear

- Public at front on king street and private use at rear

- Not my interest, not enough movement within the area

- More of one way traffic within the building

- Enter at front and exit at rear

- Up to 3 stories in height

Site 3 – analysis

- 40m x 19m

- Reasonable area

- Shops on both side

- Just front access

- Was considering this site, as its spacious

- Appropriate for art gallery and shop/home

- Not my interest again

- Up to 3 stories in height

Site 2 – analysis

- 30m x 20m

- Isolated location

- 3 streets around it

- Busy road on front façade (king street)

- Front and rear access plus side

- Erskineville road is one way traffic with many people going through

- Wilson street or more private and residential area

- Façade is 3 stories in height, decreases into a café on Wilson street

- Chosen this site for the challenge

- Easier to show of the art work or get people interested into walking into the shop/art gallery

Starting project 3, initiated by visiting all 3 sites. Site 1 and site 3 were not of much of an interest, as they didn’t really grasp my mind for the kind of design I had of an art gallery/shop. Site 2 was much more preferable for me as I liked to face the challenge of the having 3 streets around my building also it looked more appropriate as an art gallery/shop as it’s a corner site. Site 2 looked isolated, but unique in its way. By looking around other buildings in Newtown, corner stores grasp more attention as they have more space and area to advertise such as the shop called “holly sheet.” For site 2, King St is a very busy and public area for vehicles and pedestrians, with bus stop close to the shop and parking within limit hours during the day. Beginning of Erskineville Rd is one way traffic going towards King St. Wilson St, was known to be very private which was all residential area and loading areas for stores. The site itself also slopes down going down from King St to Wilson St, by at least 1m.
